Seeing the Real Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic boasts 900 miles of tropical coasts, stunning mountains and scenic deserts, making this island nation a popular tourist destination. The country also has a complex history showcased in its rich artistic and literary traditions, including merengue music and dance.

Even with an active tourist industry, much of the country suffers from severe poverty. More than one in three Dominicans (36%) live below the nation's poverty line. And while the country has made great strides in universal primary enrolment, 1 in 4 children do not finish primary school and only 5 to 6 out of 10 children enroll in secondary school. Opportunity's Education Finance program is seeking to improve those statistics by offering communitydriven and community-sustained financial solutions.

Journey with Opportunity Dominican Republic to witness firsthand how we are walking alongside Dominican families and school proprietors in the poorest sectors of society to help them achieve their dreams. Through the provision of tailored loans, technical assistance and training, our clients are developing sustainable schools and creating holistic change in their communities.
