Read With Us: September Book Club Selection

By Opportunity International

In this back-to-school season, we are feeling extra motivated to read great books!

Last month, we explored A State of Freedom by Neel Mukherjee.

This collection of short stories was set in modern-day India and long-listed for the DSC Prize for South Asian Literature. Like so much of what we have been reading this year, it was both beautiful and devastating, and it opened our eyes to some painful realities of the world.

This month, we’re sticking with short stories, but traveling to Africa.

Join us as we read The Thing Around Your Neck by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Adichie is well-known for two of her best-selling books, Americanah and We Should All Be Feminists (both of which are also worthy of a spot on your reading list), and was called “one of the world’s great contemporary writers” by President Barack Obama.

We can’t wait to dive into her story collection this month!

If you’re in the mood for a novel or a non-fiction selection instead, check out our complete list of Book Club selections and revisit one of our previous reads!

And as always, let us know what you are reading and learning in our Facebook discussion group.

We can’t wait to read with you!
