Michele Broemmelsiek serves as Chief Operating Officer at Opportunity International, where she leads core operational functions—including Finance, IT, HR, Knowledge Management, Compliance, Legal, and Subsidiary Operations—with a focus on driving efficiency, accountability, and alignment with Opportunity’s mission and growth objectives through cross-functional strategies.

Michele has over 30 years of international development service. Working at the intersection of programming and operations, she brings with her the expertise of leading in high-impact international development nonprofits—including Catholic Relief Services, IntraHealth International, and FHI360.

In her most recent leadership roles, Broemmelsiek designed new governance and accountability structures at FHI 360 to strengthen enterprise operations, and oversaw an international team of 450 staff delivering critical services across 20 countries.

Michele is known for her collaborative leadership style, strategic clarity, and commitment to building high-performing, mission-driven teams. She is passionate about expanding access to inclusive finance and education as tools for sustainable development.

Michele earned her master’s in international development from American University and her bachelor’s in religious studies from Emory University. She is based in Chicago and plays a key role in shaping Opportunity International’s global strategy and partnerships.
