Former FHI 360 Leader Will Advance Opportunity’s Mission to Equip People in Developing Countries With the Financial Service, Training, and Support Needed to Exit Poverty

CHICAGO, July 30, 2025 - Opportunity International announced today that Michele Broemmelsiek has joined the organization as Chief Operating Officer.

In her new role, Broemmelsiek will lead core operational functions—including Finance, IT, HR, Knowledge Management, Compliance, Legal, and Subsidiary Operations—with a focus on driving efficiency, accountability, and alignment with Opportunity’s mission and growth objectives through cross-functional strategies.

Broemmelsiek joins Opportunity International as the next chapter in her 30 years of international development service. Working at the intersection of programming and operations, Broemmelsiek brings with her the expertise of leading in high-impact nonprofits—including Catholic Relief Services, IntraHealth International, and FHI360.

In her most recent leadership roles, Broemmelsiek designed new governance and accountability structures at FHI 360 to strengthen enterprise operations, and she oversaw an international team of 450 staff delivering critical services across 20 countries.

Broemmelsiek earned her Master’s in International Development from American University and her B.A. in Religious Studies from Emory University.
