Former Bethany Christian Services Executive will Advance Opportunity’s Mission to Equip People in Developing Countries With the Tools, Training, and Services Needed to Exit Poverty

CHICAGO, January 14, 2025 – Opportunity International announced today that Cheryl Jereczek has joined the organization as Chief Philanthropy Officer.

“We are thrilled to welcome Cheryl to this vital role at such a pivotal moment in Opportunity’s five-decade journey,” said Atul Tandon, CEO of Opportunity International. “Cheryl brings a dynamic and visionary approach to nonprofit leadership, coupled with an outstanding history of advancing efforts to combat global poverty and support vulnerable populations. Her leadership will be instrumental in evolving our fundraising strategies and achieving an even greater impact in delivering on our mission and strategic objectives.”

Jereczek joins Opportunity International after 5 years with the national adoption and foster care nonprofit Bethany Christian Services, where she served as Chief Development Officer. During her tenure there, Jereczek was responsible for leading all multi-functional fundraising efforts, including the organization’s national campaign strategy and donor relations team.

Prior to that, Jereczek spent 12 years at World Vision, where she led a team of more than 75 fundraisers responsible for delivering over $80 million in revenue from individuals and institutional foundations.

“I’m very excited to join the Opportunity International leadership team,” said Jereczek.  “I believe everyone should have the tools and support necessary to build their own pathways to prosperity.  By harnessing the power of philanthropy, we can engage our passionate supporters and work together to end extreme poverty.  I look forward to collaborating with individuals around the globe to give people the opportunity to pursue their dreams, earn a living, and provide for their families.”

Jereczek earned her master’s degree from Kent State University and her Bachelor of Science degree from Augsburg University.
