A new work by an Opportunity author

This month, we’re so excited to bring you our latest Opportunity Book Club pick!  

Strong Connections: Stories of Resilience from the Far Reaches of the Mobile Phone Revolution features the stories of Opportunity clients and is written by our dear friend and former colleague Rosa Wang. 

Wang served as Opportunity’s Global Director for Digital Financial Services, where she developed a digital strategy to connect clients with life-changing technology.  

In her new book, she shares her story of getting technology to the people living on what she describes as the “last frontier of the mobile/digital revolution.” It’s a revolution that is still happening in the most rural villages, the places without roads, and the communities that Opportunity International has committed to serve.  

Opportunity’s clients use so many of the digital tools depicted in Strong Connections—tools that allow them to access financial resources, training, and support. Since the advent of mobile banking technology in the early 2000s, Opportunity International has continued to adapt and transform our programs to reach more clients. Now, using high-touch, high-tech solutions like agent banking networks and modernized mobile banking, we provide reliable financial services to families who have long been excluded from the formal financial system.

Wang’s account is personal and warm, giving an honest look at the technical details of disruptive technology, as well as the lives it has changed. Her book affirms the work we do around the globe and reminds us that everyone, everywhere deserves the same opportunities.
