We’re thankful for…great books!

By Allison Kooser

In this season of gratitude, one of the things we’re most thankful for is a great book. With cooler temperatures and the holidays fast approaching, the time is right to curl up with a novel and get lost in an incredible story.

This month, join the Opportunity Book Club as we read How Beautiful We Were by Imbolo Mbue.

Set in a fictional African village, How Beautiful We Were explores colonialism, ancestry, the environment, and the power of community in the face of enormous challenges. Through vivid storytelling, it challenges us to think about our global history—and our collective future.

Mbue, who is originally from Cameroon, is a celebrated author who has crafted a “heartbreaking and relevant story that seeps into your bones, quickly engulfs you, and doesn’t let go” (The Seattle Times).

Her work has received numerous accolades, and How Beautiful We Were was named an Amazon Best Book in March 2021 and called “profoundly affecting” by The New York Times Book Review.

Pick up a copy of How Beautiful We Were today, and join us as we dive into this fictional world.

We can’t wait to read with you!
