Stella Rose Anyodo is a 16-year-old student at Tororo Girls’ School in Soroti, Uganda. She dreams of becoming a Civil Engineer – and currently loves studying physics! When Stella’s father stopped receiving his salary, Stella was on the verge of dropping out of school.
Thankfully, her mother applied and received a school fee loan from Opportunity International, enabling her to keep Stella in school. Stella expressed her fears, saying, “I thought I was going to leave school because they grade using the average mark for the year. I wasn’t sure I could make the next grade. I feared being bounced back to a lower stream because of poor performance and I feared repeating my current grade.” Today, Stella believes that her education is the biggest factor in determining her future. She is working tirelessly to make her dreams come true.
When Isabella Nazareth’s mother could no longer afford her school fees at Our Lady of Africa School, Isabella had to stay home for a month at the beginning of the term. As the only girl in a family, Isabella’s brothers were able to stay in school while she stayed home.
But Isabella’s mother believed in her. She applied and received a School Fee Loan in June 2014. Isabella returned to school and saw a real improvement in her grades. She went on to achieve distinctions and advanced to the next grade, thanks to support from Opportunity.
