2013 was an inspiring year. In this blog series, the 12 Days of Opportunity, we are celebrating the accomplishments made possible by our caring and generous community of partners and supporters. Because of you, our clients are working their way out of poverty, strengthening their families and building vibrant communities in 22 countries around the world.

What We Do

Extreme poverty is a reality for 1.5 billion people today.  Many are entrepreneurs like Justine Nassali (pictured below) who have plans for themselves, their families and their communities.  With a little support, they can change many lives.

Opportunity International invests, one by one, in over five million clients around the world who dare to dream of lifting themselves, their families and their communities out of poverty. With a more than 40-year track record, Opportunity knows that our sustainable, holistic solution just works.

One $150 loan made to one entrepreneur can kick start a business that impacts an entire family and community.  

Invest in One

The Invest in One fundraising program, launched in the fall of 2012, lives online year-round but has key focus periods in the spring, fall and winter. As gifts are made, loans are distributed to Opportunity clients. Each loan beneficiary completes a training program, and is paired with a community expert(s) in their industry. Entrepreneurs include farmers, educators, retailers, tailors, furniture repairers and grocers. 

Any size donation can make a difference. For each $1 invested, $6 is returned to the community as the loan recipient builds a successful business, repays the loan and pays the goodwill forward. Invest in one and you can empower many.

You have supported four successful campaigns over the past 14 months! Together, the Invest in One program has raised over 6 million dollars to empower over 42,000 entrepreneurs to build businesses, send their children to school and save for the future.

Now thats a big impact. And we can't wait to see what the Invest in One program will accomplish in 2014.
