Entrepreneurs Don Antonio Orozco
Loan Use: Obtained resources to improve yucca farm
Like countless yucca farmers in Nicaragua, Don Antonio had trouble growing a high quality product and finding a market for his crops.
He found a solution within Opportunity International’s Nicaragua branch, which provides financing, training and technology that enables farms like Don Antonio’s to become sustainable in one of the most impoverished nations in Central America.
Opportunity International’s processing plant even buys most of Don Antonio’s crops, providing him a reliable market -- one of the many reasons he credits Opportunity International to his success.
Thanks to this partnership, Don Antonio currently owns more than 1,900 acres and employs several family members and 32 farmers from his community. As his farm grows, so does his capacity to hire more people and strengthen the community.
Don Antonio is working to gain better access to clean water, which he believes will help produce higher quality, more marketable yucca.
Opportunity International’s innovative programs for farmers are making local ownership and long-term sustainability a reality in Nicaragua.
