Atul Tandon is the CEO of Opportunity International, a global nonprofit focused on helping people living at the bottom of the economic pyramid with the means to build sustainable livelihoods and combat poverty. In 2023, Opportunity and its local partners released over $1.85 billion of capital and served 20 million people across 31 countries, equipping them with financial resource and wraparound services, to help grow their informal businesses and smallholder farms, build incomes, educate their children, and live better. In addition, Opportunity’s network financed over 7,056 low-cost private schools providing quality education to over 1.9 million children.
Tandon joined Opportunity in 2016, as its CEO, after a successful international career designing, building, and scaling some of the world’s largest banking networks and nonprofit organizations. He previously held global leadership roles at Citibank, World Vision, and United Way Worldwide. He has brought this same leadership and vision to Opportunity’s international network, shepherding the organization through a period of innovation, growth, and increased impact.
Tandon grew up in India, earned an MBA from the University of Delhi, and holds a certificate in governance from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. His leadership has been celebrated with numerous recognitions, including the 2019 Global Leadership award, Life & News’ Transformational Leader of the Year award, and the 2021 NonProfit PRO Lifetime Achievement Award honoring his decades of service to families living in extreme poverty.
