Randy KurtzChief Administrative Officer

Randy Kurtz oversees Opportunity’s Finance, Accounting, Investment, Human Resources, IT, and Legal departments and joined Opportunity in November 2018. He is a problem-solver with experience in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors and expertise in strategy, finance, operations, and change management. His focus will be to strengthen efficiencies and effectiveness and to drive outcomes that further Opportunity’s mission to end extreme poverty.

Before joining Opportunity, Kurtz spent 27 years in investment banking with Goldman Sachs, Salomon Brothers/Citigroup, and Credit Suisse. He was trusted advisor to Fortune 500 boards and CEOs, managing company-transforming M&A, activist shareholder situations, capital structure/balance sheet decisions and capital markets access. Randy led 47 completed M&A transactions spanning North America, Europe, Asia, and South America, ranging in size up to $10 billion. He is an Audit Committee Financial Expert according to SEC/NYSE rules.

More recently, Kurtz made a personal decision to trade his Wall Street career for a commitment to help those in need. First, Randy served as CEO of the Cristo Rey Network, an organization of 26 preparatory high schools for underserved urban youth. Then, he was Deputy Director and CFO of the Illinois Criminal Justice Authority, a state government agency focused on criminal justice outcomes. While at the Authority, Kurtz created the Pathway to Enterprise for Returning Citizens or PERC, a program providing ex-offenders with startup capital and entrepreneurship training.

Randy earned an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago.
