Hiking on the South Kaibab Trail

You will start your epic challenge at the South Kaibab Trail at sunrise, descending into the canyon across the Black Bridge all the way down to the Colorado River. Take off your shoes to feel the white sand beach and cool water over lunch, then begin the most challenging part of the hike: the 5,000-foot ascent back to the South Rim. This 14-mile roundtrip, out-and-back trail includes unbelievable scenery, powered by incredible team camaraderie that will make the challenge worthwhile!

This route offers two bailout options: Skeleton Point and The Tipoff (6 and 9 miles roundtrip, respectively).

Physical Preparation, Risk & Safety

This is a challenging hike that will test your mental and physical limits. You will follow a specialized training program to ensure you’re ready to take on this adventure. Additionally, the Grand Canyon does come with risks, such as extreme weather, dehydration or heat-related illnesses, and wildlife encounters. Team Opportunity will have experienced hikers with us who have extensive Grand Canyon expertise. With proper training, a strong team support system, constant communication, frequent rest breaks, and optional turnback points, we can stay safe and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Grand Canyon!

Why We're Hiking

Your efforts will power life-changing transformations for women in Malawi living on less than $1 per day. Each hiker is responsible for fundraising $6,000, which will change the lives 3 women and their families as they enter Opportunity’s program and start a business, earn income, feed their families, and send their children to school. Team Opportunity will collectively help 50 families break the cycle of generational poverty! Just as these women are equipped with training and support to achieve their goals, you will receive fundraising coaching, team support, resource toolkits, and the platform to share your story.
