Sample Itinerary
Day One
Arrive in Managua, Nicaragua, where local Opportunity staff will meet you and take you to Pacaya Lodge in Catarina for check-in.
Day Two
Join fellow travelers for orientation over breakfast before venturing to visit Opportunity’s work. Meet clients in Managua and Masaya, including a Trust Group meeting. In the afternoon, head to our local yucca plant to see the industrialization of yucca and other products. In the evening, join the group for dinner in downtown Granada.
Day Three
After breakfast, visit a farmer and spend the rest of the day at La Laguna meeting families who are driving change through community leadership.
Day Four
Share in the excitement and success of our students through the graduation commemoration of Emprendedora Technical School.
Day Five
Depart for home with wonderful memories, lasting friendships, and a renewed spirit as you reflect on your role in Opportunity’s work to end poverty.
Mombacho Volcano Trek and Zipline Tour (Optional)
Arrive a day early and join this exciting excursion! An icon of the Nicaragua landscape, the 1,200-meter high Mombacho Volcano offers stunning vistas of Lake Nicaragua's islands. The 1.5-mile hike to the top of the dormant volcano rises through a clouded forest and past three craters from the volcano’s ancient eruptions. The Mombacho Natural Reserve is home to more than 170 animal and bird species, reptiles, and amphibians. After you reach the top of the mountain, descend by way of a 1,500-meter zipline canopy tour! Includes transportation to and from Pacaya Lodge, entrance to the Reserve, and an English-speaking tour guide. Departure at 8:00 a.m. Cost is $80 per person.
