Seeing the real Nicaragua

Nicaragua is home to great beauty and passion. This Central American country possesses the natural beauty of both Pacific and Caribbean coasts, majestic volcanoes and a rich culture best known for its marimba music and warm hospitality.

Nicaragua’s economy is primarily focused on the agricultural sector. Despite ongoing effects of the Contra War in the 1980s, several recessions and natural disasters, a new sense of pride and confidence is driving Nicaragua’s farmers and artisans toward progress. Even though Nicaragua remains one of the poorest countries in Central America, this sense of hope is inspiring its youth to learn how to support their families by starting income-generating businesses.

To bolster this movement of hope, Opportunity launched the Nicaragua Community Economic Development Program in 2005 to assist with community development from within building upon local assets and investing in local economies. Our programs provide both individual and community-level investments to address sustainable solutions for entrepreneurs, their families and their communities. Travel with us to experience firsthand how Nicaragua is being built up and renewed day by day.
