Join Global Citizen at the 2016 Youth Advocates Symposium

By Lauren Thorn

Since 2008, Global Citizen has spearheaded events to generate social action and worked with partners like Opportunity to end extreme poverty by 2030. Now, Global Citizen will host the first-ever Youth Advocates Symposium on September 22, 2016 in New York City, the same week as the Global Citizen Festival.

The symposium will gather young activists from around the world with unique campaigning and advocacy backgrounds, allowing for an engaging exchange of experiences, strategies and practices geared towards addressing global issues outlined by the United Nations’ Global Goals:

  • Food & Hunger
  • Global Health
  • Education
  • Girls & Women
  • Water, Sanitation & Hygiene

Each winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip to New York City from September 21-25, 2016. They will also be given tickets to attend "Global Citizen: The World on Stage" the evening of 22 September, as well as the fifth annual Global Citizen Festival on 24 September.

This all-expenses paid trip will not only provide young advocates with direct exposure to the work of Global Citizen and skilled development practitioners, but also equip them with innovative tools and knowledge for effective campaign methods.

Global Citizen is accepting applications through August 28, and interested applicants can learn more about the trip and eligibility criteria here: https://www.globalcitizen.org/en/awards/youth-advocates-symposium/.
